ABAN24 - Sara Flounders, an American analyst, wrote in an article titled “Iran’s Drones, the Strait of Hormuz, and the New World Order” in Workers World that recent developments show the balance of power in West Asia has significantly shifted and that the previous US‑dominated structures are eroding.
She described the recent ceasefire as a result of Iran’s steadfastness and emphasized that Tehran has managed to secure its position without accepting US conditions.
According to this analyst, Iran’s internal cohesion has been one of the key factors behind the failure of Washington’s policies.
Flounders, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, wrote: This vital passageway, through which about 20% of the world’s oil flows, has now become a tool in Iran’s hands for exerting geopolitical influence. According to her, Iran’s decision to exercise greater control over the passage of oil tankers and to collect transit fees is part of a broader effort to bypass sanctions and reduce dependence on the dollar.
The analyst also referred to the trend of “de‑dollarization,” describing it as one of the significant consequences of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran. She wrote that the use of currencies such as China’s yuan, or even cryptocurrencies, in energy transactions is a sign of the weakening of US financial dominance.
Flounders concluded by stressing that recent developments indicate the world is entering a new phase — one in which emerging powers and countries like Iran, relying on domestic capabilities and new partnerships, are shaping an order different from the past.
